Superintendent of Schools
Gerard W.Dempsey, Jr., Superintendent of Schools (516) 937-6301 Dear Community Residents, Welcome to our district’s new website. In an effort to make our communication more thorough and effective we have decentralized the creation of content to each school and department. We hope that all our staff, students, parents and all the residents of our community will find content that is helpful and informative. Our goal was to create a site that could be quickly and easily navigated. We hope you find that to be the result of our efforts. Content is continuing to be developed and will be added not only during the next few weeks but continually as we need to share new information with the school community. A media clip has been developed to guide you through the site. Please use this tool to assist you in exploring the features of our new website. Springtime brings us to the annual cycle of state assessments, award ceremonies, moving up programs and high school graduation. Each year during this time we take stock of our student accomplishments and celebrate together with the students and their families. Beyond the academic awards and recognitions it is also a time to look at the humanitarian efforts of students. Individual classrooms, extra-curricular clubs and entire schools have made enormous efforts to raise money and awareness regarding many human needs around the world. A highlight of these efforts is the Relay for Life which will take place on June 11 this year. This concern for others has been a hallmark of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Schools for many years. Education is a constant topic for discussion in the media, unfortunately often marked by controversy. I believe that this is a time for all groups in our society that see the importance of public education to join together to appreciate and celebrate the accomplishments and significance of public education. Each year we seek the community’s support for the approval of the budget. While that support is essential, we continually need to dialogue about the value of education all year long. Sincerely, Gerard W. Dempsey, Jr. Superintendent of Schools _____________________________________________________ | ||
