John F. Kennedy High School Students Finalists in I-SWEEP Competition
The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District recently recognized the accomplishments of Talia Blum and Mili Shah, seniors at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (JFK). Both students have been selected as finalists in the prestigious International Sustainable World Engineering Energy Environment (I-SWEEP) competition, which is the world’s largest science fair focused on renewable resources. Talia and Mili will compete against hundreds of the brightest Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (S.T.E.M.) focused students from approximately 60 countries this May.
The event held, in Houston, Texas, aims to inspire students to preserve Earth’s resources and create a sustainable planet by creating projects which explore topics such as renewable energy, sustainable development and medical breakthroughs. Both students qualified for the prestigious competition based on the success of projects they have been developing. Mili’s project was titled, A Comparative Analysis of the Living and Extinct Lumbar Vertebrae of Strepsirrhine Lemurs. Talia’s project was titled, Optimizing Supercomputer Topologies: Developing Probabilistic Algorithms to Construct More Efficient Node Networks to Increase Supercomputer Speed.
