Plainview-Old Bethpage Students Perform at
NYSSMA Major Organization Festival
Student Ensembles Demonstrate their Musical Talents at Hofstra University
Four student ensembles from the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District recently performed in the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) Major Organization Festival at Hofstra University.
The John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFK) Chamber Orchestra, POBJFK String Orchestra, Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School (POBMS)/Mattlin Middle School (MMS) Combined Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus and MMS Fifth and Sixth Grade Band each performed three selections for two specially certified adjudicators. The groups were assessed on tone, intonation, technique, accuracy, interpretation and other musical elements.
The ensembles earned the following ratings for their performances:
• POBJFK Chamber Orchestra – Level 6 Gold with Distinction
• POBJFK String Orchestra – Level 6 Gold
• POBMS/MMS Combined Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus – Level 2 Silver
• MMS Fifth and Sixth Grade Band – Level 2 Bronze
• The District congratulates ensemble directors Mr. Glenn Rubin, Mrs. Amanda Gundling, and Mrs. Karen Bernstein, along with all the student-musicians who participated in this wonderful festival.
