Plainview-Old Bethpage High School Delivers Unique
September 11 Morning Announcements
Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School Chamber Orchestra recorded a music video featuring their rendition of “Somewhere Out There”, written by James Horner, in honor of those who lost and sacrificed their lives on September 11, 2001. The students, joined by conductor and teacher Glenn Rubin, were recorded Tuesday, September 9, 2014 for a school wide broadcast to students and teachers via SMART Boards located in each classroom, for a special September 11 Announcement.
“It is important to remind and educate our students about the events that took place on September eleventh 13 years ago,” said POB Superintendent Dr. Lorna Lewis. “Many of the high school students were too young to truly understand what that day meant for America. We hope to educate our students while honoring the loved ones we lost and the emergency responders whose bravery was unrivaled.”
Principal James Murray addressed the students before leading the student body in the Pledge of Allegiance and directing their attention to the Chamber Orchestra’s performance on each classroom’s individual SMART Board. The school-wide broadcast concluded with a moment of silence.
