Superintendent’s Highlight of the Week
September 16, 2016
This week we received the devastating news of the loss of a great Plainview -Old Bethpage cheerleader, legislator extraordinaire Judy Jacobs. In every corner of the District we are hearing stories repeated of how she has impacted the lives of the students, parents and staff. Principal Scesney remembers meeting Legislator Judy in 1995 when she read to his first class at Parkway. She continued reading each year and is shown here with last year's Kindergarten class.
She never turned down an opportunity to participate in PARP or Homecoming or an Award Ceremony or our annual Memorial Day Parade. She used her connections with North Shore- LIJ to provide opportunities for our Science students at POBJFKHS. The traffic light in front of Parkway Elementary School and the turning lane light at the intersection of Manetto Hill Road and Washington Avenue were a result of her advocacy for the safety of our children. If it mattered to the residents of our community, it mattered to Judy.
Throughout the years she has invited a host of students into the legislature to experience the working of the Nassau County government. She was a force to be reckoned with, a lover of children and a true advocate for the people she represented. Her personal connections and demonstrated compassion for those she encountered have left cherished memories that will remain in our hearts forever.
"Aleha B'shalom" - may she rest in peace and “Zichronah L'vracha" - may her memory bring blessings.
